AFL-CIO - Lead Targeting Analyst
Washington, DC - 2011-2015
- Developed automated state legislative targeting system, which had a higher accuracy in the 2012 election than many federal legislative level targeting systems that relied on a far greater volume of polling data. Created standard and boutique models, forecasted population changes and patterns and identified targets where intervention is likely to be cost effective.
- Wrote an automatic modeling program that explores multiple feature selection methods and modeling algorithms, selects the optimal solutions for the dataset and scores files up to 60 GB in size.
- Implemented a cost effective polling program where 100,000 union members were interviewed in 13 states and oversaw the production of hundreds of polling products including toplines, banners and strategy memos.
- Designed a database reporting tool to track labor union campaign spending that generates automated reports by year, affiliate union, and type of donation.
- Oversaw survey design and sampling for general public polls. Developed messages to be tested and wrote memos to be used in lobbying elected officials and briefing executives of findings.
- Managed a staff of four people in the peak election season to balance workflow, assure deadlines were met, checked quality of work and synthesized results.
Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research - Analyst
Washington, DC - 2010
- Managed a staff of three people to direct the aggregation of almost one million surveys records to mine them for insights into voter behavior. Created and applied innovative techniques in data management, process automation and analytics to maximize the strategic value of client data.
- Directed the creation of weekly PowerPoint briefings of emerging political trends and voter behavior and presented a portion of the briefings.
- Identified key voter groups and Congressional Districts to target. Wrote survey questionnaires including message testing. Researched legislation to write campaign talking points.
- Managed a budget and progress reports.
- Prepared data for multivariate analysis by recoding variables, appending datasets and using multiple imputation to correct for missing data. Used multivariate analysis including linear and non-linear regressions, principal component analysis, factor analysis, CHAID analysis and decision tree analysis to formulate clear and concise reports to guide clients without advanced knowledge of statistics.
Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research - Assistant Analyst
Washington, DC - 2009-2010
- Managed a large database of polling data consisting of nearly one million observations and over 1,000 variables. Responsible for the proofreading, cleaning, standardization and integration of data into the database. Appended geographic, economic, and voter file data to survey data.
- Conducted research and development of sampling and survey methodology. Restructured the database and processes to improve efficiency including using SQL Server.
- Wrote script in SPSS and STATA to automate processes. Formatted analysis for presentation in PowerPoint and created programs to automatically display output graphically. Collaborated in the creation of a knowledge sharing wiki. Managed an intranet website.
AFL-CIO - Research Aide
Washington, DC - 2008
